This is a lengthy review and you may find it quite troubling.Henley vets used to be a really good practice but sadly they have in my opinion just become a money making machine to milk pet owners for all they can.My first complaint is that my puppy Brian was taken in to Henley Vets with the complaint of dermatitis. He was prescribed a drug called Apoquel which works by effectively suppressing the immune system (JAK1 inhibitor). Apoquel is a very good drug but it is explicitly not for use in puppies. Clearly puppies do not have an immune system a dog would have. For this reason it can be incredibly dangerous when given to puppies and hence the reason the patient information sheet states 'Do not use Apoquel in dogs of under 12 months'. This is basic stuff and totally inexcusable.My second complaint is a bit more sad. We had our older dog George put to sleep as he was dying from renal failure. We were both pretty heartbroken and decided we should get another puppy. We registered Frank the puppy with Henley Vets and after his vaccination he got really bad nausea and would not stop vomiting (this was the day after the jab and it happened to be out of hours). We took he puppy in for an emergency out of hours appointment. We arrived and were made to wait for an hour with a very sick puppy under 12 weeks of age for an hour whilst a dog that had eaten a tea bag was seen to. The puppy was given an anti nausea jab and we were sent home, the vet said he probably had a bit of a bug and she would be very surprised if he wasn't better later on that day. The puppy didn't improve and I returned and he was admitted into intensive care..... he died a few hours later. It appears he aspirated on some vomit. It was clear he had aspirated on the vomit prior to visiting the vets in the morning due to his breathing and this was missed. He shouldn't have been sent home!The vets then kindly presented me with a bill for over 1300....... What I feel is quite frankly disgusting is that they charged 428.95 for out of hours fees and a repeat fee to bring him back in. That is not an amount for any treatment or consultations the 428.95 is just for surcharges. I cannot believe how unethical that is especially based on the circumstances.Based on our experiences I could not recommend Henley Vets. If your dog is ill out of hours be prepared for Henley Vets to bend you over the proverbial barrel.I am currently taking Henley Vets to court over the legality of their out of hours fees. I will ensure to update this review once it has been to trial and judgement is passed.
The Veterinary Center in Henley-On-Thames are by far the best vets we have been to. They have been amazing with my cat who had a stroke last year and my puppy loves coming to visit! They are all so caring and friendly and really do have compassion and love for the animals in their care. Thank you Henley Vets for your support!
Anneli is an amazing vet. 12 months ago our doberman was in a bad way. Today he is in great shape. He is an old dog but she has sorted issues with Thyroid, bladder and arthritis. Would recommend her for being not just a great vet, but also caring, attentive and excellent client care.
I can only agree this has to be the worst vet ever, took my Jack Russel pup there and they miss diagnosed her 5 times, growing pains , bone density too thick, right elbow left shoulder and a chip off her pelvis. after wanting a second opinion from another vet they would not forward her x-rays or notes, finally getting her referred at a charge . they also took 3 weeks to fill in insurance forms with no diagnosis which they charge for. Asked for a manager to speak to I was told Fiona would call not once not twice but 5 times over 1 month, I went in finaly only to be told by receptionist that was not good at all and guess what , still no call . I can only say if you care for your dog take them elsewhere
Worst vets I think you could ever go to. This is a lengthy review but worth reading if you take your animals care seriously. Our dog was wrongly diagnosed, three times.He had been acting very weird and stressed for a week, not sleeping and hardly eating. First they said he was "just an old dog and will have these moments" then "he has arthritis" and finally, "he MIGHT have a malfunctioning thyroid". On one occasion they insisted he stayed in overnight and promised he would be monitored every hour- Instead he was checked at 9pm and 6am and that was all. All of these wasted visits cost a total of over 800.After that we managed to get a private referral to a specialist(Anderson Moore's) who worked out he has cancer- they swiftly removed it and were the best we could ask for- genuine, caring and most importantly, COMPETENT! Just today my girlfriend took Blue to get his stitches out and requested sedation so that his pre existing blood pressure isn't raised from stress. He also had to have an ulcer on his eye treated and infected paws looked at. I've just been told that instead of waiting till he was suitably settled from the sedation, he wouldnt go down at all so we gave him a couple more doses but in the end we just got on with it, he was muzzled and growling but we got the job done - they not only took his stitches out but went over his eyeball with basically a tattoo needle to poke tons of tiny holes in it. Imagine having your eyeball tattooed, stitches taken out and sore paws poked at without any anesthetic!?!?So my poor girlfriend had to not only take a traumatised dog home but as he neared the car the sedation started to take hold and he passed out, leaving her having to pick up a 21kg lump from the carpark ground and then carry him from the car into the house. He's currently breathing 9 times per minute. Brian- whoever you are, you should be ashamed of yourself and fair warning to anyone who goes here, they are crooks, and have no regard for your pets.
